10 Critical Steps to Achieving Your Goals (Every Time)

Updated – February 25, 2025

Ready to learn the steps to achieving your goals?

Most people set goals, but very few actually achieve them.

In this post, I want to share my proven process that provides you with the exact steps to achieve your goals, guaranteed.

So why do so many of us struggle with this? It’s not because they’re lazy or lack motivation. Instead, it often comes down to the absence of a structured process to follow.

Achieving any goal—whether it’s losing weight, starting a business, or mastering a new skill—requires a repeatable, step-by-step system. This system should:

  • Break big goals into smaller, achievable milestones
  • Create daily and weekly actions that keep you on track
  • Encourage reflection and learning to make constant adjustments

The truth is, you won’t know exactly how to achieve your goal when you start, and that’s okay!

The key is to begin, learn as you go, and keep adapting.

How to Use These Steps to Achieve Your Goals

This is the process I follow to work towards all my goals.

While I draw inspiration from influencers like Russell Brunson and Tony Robbins, the true power of this approach comes from years of practice and refinement of these steps.

I want to walk you through my ten-step framework for achieving your goals.

Along the way, we’ll explore two practical examples to illustrate this process, and I’ll provide specific applications for each step:

  • Losing 20 kg by this time next year
  • Building a business that averages $10,000 in income per month by the end of this year

By the end, you’ll see exactly how I apply this process to any goal I pursue.

I believe the principles will be the same for us all, but we need to find our unique ways of applying them.

My hope is that you can use this framework as a starting point in developing your own recipe for success!

So, let’s dive in…

10 Steps to Achieving Your Goals

Step 1 – Assess Your Starting Point

Before setting goals, take a moment to reflect on where you are right now.

Understanding your current situation helps ensure your goals are relevant and meaningful.

Ask yourself:

  • What areas of your life are thriving?
  • Where do you feel stuck or unfulfilled?
  • What habits, skills, or mindset shifts could help you grow?

Write down your thoughts.

This reflection will serve as a foundation for understanding the steps to achieving your goals.

Step 2 – Define Your Vision of Success

Your vision represents your ultimate goal—the peak of the mountain you aspire to climb.

Begin by defining what success looks like for you.

For example, if your goal is to lose 20 kg, picture yourself at your target weight, feeling healthier and more energetic.

If you’re starting a business, envision your company thriving and generating steady income.

Choose a realistic timeframe, such as one year.

Now, imagine yourself having achieved this vision, with everything going according to plan.

Reflect on these questions:

  • Who have you become?
  • How do you feel?
  • What is your life like?

Write down your vision and revisit it regularly to keep your motivation alive!

Step 3 – Set Clear, Measurable Milestones

Breaking your vision into measurable milestones makes your goal more achievable.

Think of these as checkpoints on your journey up the mountain.

For example:

  • If your goal is to lose 20 kg in a year, a milestone might be losing 2 kg per month.
  • If you aim to earn $50,000 in a year from a new business, an early milestone might be reaching $4,000 in monthly revenue.

Ask yourself:

  • What are the key milestones I need to reach?
  • How will I measure success at each stage?

You don’t need to know the exact path yet—this step is about breaking your vision into manageable chunks.

Step 4 – Turn Milestones Into Actionable Steps

Take your first milestone, this will be your sole focus during the allocated time you set.

This first milestone should be specific enough that you can work through the specific action you need to take.

Ask yourself:

  • Is the goal specific enough? (outcome, time frame, quality etc)
  • Identify the exact actions you are going to commit to.

By turning milestones into clear steps, you eliminate overwhelm and make progress feel more achievable.

Step 5 – Identify Potential Obstacles and Solutions

Every goal comes with challenges. Thinking ahead about potential obstacles and how to overcome them will help you stay on track.

  • What might slow me down?
  • How will I handle setbacks?
  • Who or what can support me in staying accountable?

Anticipating challenges prepares you to navigate them effectively rather than being caught off guard.

Step 6 – Plan Your Days with Intent

A goal without daily action is just a wish. Spend five minutes each morning planning your day and prioritizing tasks that align with your goal.

  • Identify 1-3 key tasks that contribute to your goal.
  • Block out time in your schedule for focused work.
  • Anticipate distractions and plan how to minimize them.

Daily planning ensures you take consistent steps forward without feeling overwhelmed.

Step 7 – Reflect and Adjust Daily

Each evening, take a few minutes to review your progress. Self-reflection builds self-awareness and allows you to refine your approach.

Ask yourself:

  • What did I accomplish today?
  • What challenges did I face, and how did I handle them?
  • Did I stick to my plan? If not, why?
  • What can I do differently tomorrow?

Adjusting daily keeps you adaptable and on track.

Step 8 – Regular Check-Ins and Course Corrections

At each milestone, evaluate your progress. Are you on track? Do you need to adjust your plan?

  • Have I hit my milestone? If not, what’s holding me back?
  • Do I need to adjust my timelines or expectations?
  • Am I staying motivated, or do I need to reignite my enthusiasm?

Checking in regularly keeps you accountable and helps you refine your strategy.

Step 9 – Stay Accountable and Motivated

Building long-term habits and staying accountable are key to success.

  • Find an accountability partner, coach, or mentor to keep you on track.
  • Celebrate small wins to maintain motivation.
  • Revisit your vision regularly to remind yourself why you started.

Accountability increases your likelihood of following through, even when motivation dips.

Step 10 – Build Self-Trust and Confidence

Achieving goals isn’t just about results—it’s about proving to yourself that you can follow through.

  • Acknowledge failures and view them as learning opportunities.
  • Keep taking consistent action, even when progress feels slow.
  • Trust that small steps add up over time.

The more you follow through on your commitments, the more confident and capable you’ll become.

By following this system, you’ll create a clear path to success, stay motivated, and develop the discipline needed to achieve any goal you set!

Practical Examples

Example 1: Losing 20 kg by This Time Next Year

If your goal is to lose 20 kg over the next year, start by understanding where you are now and why this goal matters to you. Once you have that clarity, break the goal down into realistic, manageable milestones.

This could mean aiming for a steady loss of 1 kg per week or setting a monthly target that feels achievable for you.

Whatever approach you choose, focus first on your initial milestone—the first step that gets you moving. Define the specific actions you will take, such as adjusting your diet, planning your meals, or scheduling workouts. Then, just get started.

At the end of the first week, weigh in and assess your progress. Use the feedback to refine your plan for the following week. Your strategy will naturally evolve as you go.

To stay on track:

  • Plan your meals and workouts ahead of time.
  • Weigh in regularly to monitor progress.
  • Reflect and adjust—if something isn’t working, tweak your approach. If needed, seek support from a coach or nutritionist.

By following this process—celebrating wins, learning from challenges, and making smart adjustments—you’ll stay on course and reach your goal.

Example 2: Reaching a $5K Monthly Revenue Target

A goal like hitting $5K in monthly revenue might feel less within your control, but the process remains exactly the same.

The key is to break the goal down and determine what actions are within your control.

Start by gaining clarity:

  • Where are you right now in terms of revenue?
  • What exactly does success look like?
  • What is the first milestone?

For a goal like this, you’re ultimately working to uncover the formula or recipe that will lead you to your desired results.

To achieve this, consider answering the following questions:

  1. How many sales do you need each month to reach $5,000?
  2. How many sales calls do you need to complete to achieve that number of sales?
  3. How many leads must you engage with to book those sales calls?
  4. Where will you find those leads to start conversations?

If you’re just getting started, Month One’s goal might simply be to have 20 meaningful conversations and observe what comes from them.

Once you have your first milestone set, that is all you need to focus on.

Your daily tasks should be focused on hitting that one traget— and at the end of that period you will assess the results, take your lessons, pivot if needed and start on the next step!

The process is simple:

  • Decide on a plan and commit to it.
  • Follow through with consistent action.
  • Reflect on results, adjust, and do more of what works.

By repeating this cycle, refining your strategy, and staying consistent, your results will compound, and you’ll eventually hit your $5K target.

This process requires every one of these steps to be taken to achieve your goals!

Conclusion

Taking these steps to achieving your goals is a journey that involves vision, planning, action, reflection, and adaptability.

By following these steps to achieve your goals and using practical examples, you can turn your aspirations into reality.

Remember, the key is to take consistent action, learn from your experiences, and keep pushing forward.

You have the power to achieve anything you put your mind to—so go and get started!
